YNHHS News ReleasesReleased March 27, 1998 Greenwich Hospital Joins Yale New Haven Health System GREENWICH, Conn.--Greenwich Health Care System, the parent corporation of Greenwich Hospital, and Yale New Haven Health System today announced the finalization of their affiliation. The announcement was made following the completion of review and approval by state and federal regulators. Yale New Haven Health System is the largest and most comprehensive integrated health care delivery and financing system in Connecticut. The system includes a New Haven-based health care network anchored by Yale-New Haven Hospital and the Yale-New Haven Children's Hospital; a Bridgeport health care network led by Bridgeport Hospital; and, with this announcement, a Greenwich health care network led by Greenwich Hospital. Bridgeport Hospital and Greenwich Hospital are each affiliated with, and Yale-New Haven Hospital serves as the primary teaching hospital for, the Yale University School of Medicine. Yale New Haven Health System is working to improve the way health care works in Connecticut to enhance quality, patient service, preserve affordability and ensure easy access to health care services for the people of Connecticut. The governance and financial affairs of the Greenwich Health Care System will remain separate. Greenwich Hospital will maintain its own clinical leadership structure and authority over medical staff, membership and credentialing, as do Yale-New Haven Hospital and Bridgeport Hospital. "This important affiliation is the latest step in the development of the Yale New Haven Health System," said Joseph A. Zaccagnino, president and CEO. "Greenwich Health Care System joining Yale New Haven Health ensures there will be strong, local, full-service health care for residents of lower Fairfield County and Westchester County, while providing the advantages of collaboration across a broad geographic area." "The joining of Greenwich Hospital in this strategic partnership will ensure our local health system will remain on the cutting edge for the foreseeable future," said Frank A. Corvino. "The affiliation with Yale New Haven Health System enhances our ability to provide the highest quality medical care and outstanding clinical programs to the patients who depend upon us for their health care services." In addition to continuing to serve as president and CEO of Greenwich Hospital, Corvino will become an executive vice president of Yale New Haven Health System. Founded in 1906, Greenwich Hospital is a 160-bed community hospital located in one of Connecticut's most historic towns. Greenwich Hospital offers a full array of clinical services and has a deep commitment to community health promotion programs. With the addition of Greenwich Hospital and its affiliates, Greenwich Hospital Home Care, satellite medical offices and Hospice, Yale New Haven Health System becomes the third largest nongovernmental employer in Connecticut, with 11,000 employees. Yale New Haven Health System (YNHHS) has 1,485 acute care beds, freestanding rehabilitation services, ambulatory surgery, outpatient diagnostic imaging centers and primary care centers.
